Scoring Categories
Protein Quality (25%)
We analyze the protein sources, their position in the ingredient list, and whether they come from whole meats, meals, or by-products. Named protein sources (e.g., 'chicken' vs 'poultry') score higher.
Ingredient Quality (25%)
We evaluate each ingredient for nutritional value, digestibility, and potential health concerns. Whole foods score higher than processed alternatives. Controversial fillers and artificial additives are penalized.
Nutritional Balance (20%)
We check guaranteed analysis values against optimal nutritional profiles for dogs. This includes protein-to-fat ratios, carbohydrate content, and the presence of essential vitamins and minerals.
